Nest, 2019
Aeon Arts Academy, Canberra
Garden prunings, wire, screws, 160 × 180 × 160 cm
Nest is a play sculpture designed to provide a welcoming space for children and adults to read, play, relax and feel safe. A little whimsical sculpture made of vines and fabric strips was the starting point for this commission. Inspired by the intricate nests and shelters created by birds, the oval-shaped structure is woven from naturally sourced branches and vines collected from Canberra gardens. Featuring a generous entrance and small porthole openings, Nest creates an intimate and cosy environment that encourages quiet reflection, imagination and connection with nature. Portable and adaptable, the installation can be used with a variety of floor coverings and may be complemented by an optional pallet-based floor, creating a unique and engaging space for community, educational and outdoor settings.
