Christiane Keller

Christiane’s life and her art have been profoundly impacted by spending more than two decades working with Aboriginal artists and their communities across Australia. An anthropologist, art historian and curator, Christiane learned twining, coiling and string making from fibre artists in Arnhem Land and worked extensively with the Tjanpi Desert Weavers in the Central Desert.

She developed her art practice in parallel to her busy life as researcher, curator and film maker, regularly exhibiting her work in Canberra and interstate. In 2019 Christiane created her own studio and teaching space, allowing her to work on larger commissions, including play sculptures for children in private and public settings.

Using natural and recycled materials, her work draws its inspiration from nature while transcending perceived barriers of utility and sculptural form.
